This year World Book Day fell on Thursday 5th March 2026 – and to celebrate it and encourage reading, New Road Academy held a competition for the students.
Staff dressed up as characters from books, and students were encouraged to identify the characters – with the winning form receiving a prize. The staff really rose up to the challenge, dressing as characters from a wide variety of books and universes, bringing characters to life, and creating a real buzz around reading.
Moments like this remind us why stories, fantasy and magical worlds matter: they spark imagination, build empathy, strengthen vocabulary and open up endless possibilities for learning.

The estates team also decided to turn plumbing into their speciality for the day!
